Assistant Financial Accountant

Grafton Banks Finance are working with a rapidly growing services company with offices in Worthing, West Sussex to recruit an Assistant Financial Accountant on a full-time permanent basis. Offering hybrid working 2 days in office and 3 days from home. Reporting into he Group Reporting Manager you will work in a small team which forms part of the wider finance team. Your job will be responsible for ensuring underlying ledgers are accurate, preparing the management accounts for holding companies, overseeing corporation tax compliance and managing our external stakeholder reporting (including auditors, investors and banks).

The job of Assistant Financial Accountant will primarily entail the posting of journals and preparation/review of balance sheet reconciliations on a day-to-day basis. You will work with the wider finance team to ensure timely and accurate numbers are prepared in line with pre-agreed timetables.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing general ledger accounts and posting the necessary journals (eg prepayment/accruals) to ensure an accurate trial balance.
  • Having two way dialogue with the relevant Finance Business partners and wider business on the general ledger balances to ensure an accurate trial balance.
  • Ownership of intercompany transactions and reconciliation.
  • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations for owned areas.
  • Maintaining fixed asset register and capitalising according to capex policy
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Compiling and submitting statutory and regulatory returns.
  • Supporting the Reporting Team in our year end audit and statutory accounts preparation.
  • Liaise with third parties and advisors including banks, suppliers and accountants (including auditors and tax advisors).
  • Constant process improvement, reducing reporting time frames and increasing the quality of management information and our control environment.
  • Assist in reviewing finance processes and systems, make suggestions for improvements and support implementation.

The successful candidate will have a strong Academic profile ( Graduate) or AAT studier with practical working experience within finance. You will be either active or looking to study your ( ACA, ACCA,CIMA) alongside strong IT skills including Excel ( Pivot tables, V-Look ups, Formulas, Spreadsheets). The nature of the role means the individual will need to demonstrate a highly methodical approach to work. This methodical approach will manifest in excellent organisational and prioritisation skills. To excel in the role, you will perform tasks with extreme accuracy, taking pride in your work. This will lead to constant self-reviewing of your own work. Given the importance of the role to the core finance function, you will be working with colleagues in the finance team and across the wider business. You will therefore need to be an excellent communicator, pro actively tackling issues and advising the business of any issues or challenges.
