We are seeking an experienced Trading Standards Officer to join the Commercial Team of a leading local authority. As the successful candidate you will be responsible for a range of duties, including food and feed standards, and will play a crucial role in maintaining and improving the regulatory environment in our community.
Day to Day of the role:
- Conducting inspections, investigating offences, and dealing with consumer complaints.
- Applying investigatory requirements such as PACE, RIPA, and CPIA to your work.
- Collecting, assessing, analysing, and sharing intelligence in a lawful manner.
- Liaising with other departments, enforcement agencies, government departments, and professional bodies.
- Leading on the development, management, and delivery of multi-agency enforcement operations.
- Developing and providing training and advice both internally and externally.
- Developing and delivering educational and behaviour change initiatives.
- Supervising staff in accordance with council policies and procedures.
- Representing the Service at local and regional levels.
- Providing councillor updates and responding to enquiries.
- Compiling material for media dissemination, subject to sign-off.
- Liaising with legal teams and producing reports, statistics, and KPIs.
- Attending and representing at relevant working groups.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A sound knowledge and experience of criminal and relevant civil procedures and investigations legislation.
- Experience of project delivery and effective partnership working.
- Ability to interpret and apply statutory guidance and legislation to deliver regulatory work.
- Ability to provide legal advice on regulatory compliance and investigate offences.
- Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
- Flexible approach to work tasks and willingness to work outside core hours if necessary.
- Competent IT skills.
- Hold a valid UK driving licence.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a high level of personal drive and commitment to excellent customer care.
- Trading Standards Practitioner Diploma (TSPD) or equivalent qualification.
An attractive hourly rate of £21.40 (PAYE) or £26.64 (Via umbrella) is on offer and the hours of work are full time (37 per week flexible).
The role can be done from home when not out on-site visiting premises.
