Role: Pensions Actuary

Location: London / Home Based

Salary: Up to £80,000 Basic Salary + Bonus + Benefits

Our client, a successful and well-respected financial planning firm, are looking for a highly skilled and technical pensions actuary to join their team; The firm are looking for an individual to work closely with senior members of staff, clients and their family law business partners. It is crucial that the successful individual will be a highly professional, respectful, detailed, and hard-working individual who can provide and explain complex information in both written and verbal forms.

Responsibilities

  • You will provide leadership on the coordination of services, ensuring the effective supply of expertise and information to enable the development of your department and the wider business.
  • You will be required to manage relationships with clients and professional connections ensuring the delivery of high-quality advice and coaching.
  • Working with colleagues and clients you will play a key part in the formulation and shape of future pension provisions, developing and improving outcomes, assisting with expert witness reports, and assessing risk across all business platforms.
  • You will work with clients to understand their needs as-well as deliver comprehensive, detailed, and high-end solutions.
  • You will work closely with colleagues to keep them well informed on industry updates and legislation changes.
  • In-line with industry updates and legislation changes, you will create relevant and up-to-date information/material that can be shared across the business as-well as with clients and professional business partners.
  • You will develop and maintain your knowledge of Pensions Legislation, Family Law, Family Procedure Rules, Case Law, and Pension Ombudsman Determinations; You will also develop and maintain your knowledge of all public sector schemes as-well as relevant factors from the Government Actuaries Department.
  • When completing single joint expert work, you will review and analyse letters of instruction to establish the work to be undertaken, information required, time-frame, and cost; It is crucial that you gather and analyse the pension details for all parties.
  • As an expert witness, you will prepare spreadsheets required to undertake the calculations requested in the letter of instruction; You will also prepare reports to answer questions requested in the letter of instruction and strictly comply with the court timetable.
  • You will assist with presenting and issuing technical updates to professional business partners; As part of this, you will work closely with senior management including the Head of Compliance and Head of Financial Planning in Divorce.

About You

  • You will hold the FIA or equivalent recognised actuarial qualifications; Financial Planning based qualifications are preferred but not essential.
  • You will have a minimum of five year's experience within a Pensions Actuary role or Financial Services based role; Ideally, you will have worked within a leading pensions or actuarial team delivering high quality advice and providing innovative solutions.
  • You will have a detailed knowledge of the calculation of all benefits within a pension scheme including the relevant revaluation legislation; It is paramount that you have a detailed knowledge of all types of pension arrangements such as, Defined Benefit, SSAS/SIPP, Section 32 Buyouts, Annuities/Income Drawdown, and State Pensions.
  • You will have strong literacy, numeracy, and IT skills; Required IT office skills include Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and industry specific back-office systems.
  • You will possess excellent communication skills as-well as a strong ability to deal with individuals at all levels within and outside the organisation; Strong empathy and sympathy skills will be paramount as you must be able to build and maintain client relationships.
  • You must have excellent personal time management skills and be able to always adhere to strict deadlines.
  • You will be a confident, authentic, genuine, and charismatic individual with excellent presentation skills; You must be able to convey complex information, to a wide variety of people with various levels of understanding, both written and verbally.
  • You must be hard working, enthusiastic, passionate, focused, and articulate with a strong commitment to delivering an excellent client experience and service; It is imperative that you always adopt highly moral, ethical, and professional approaches to your work.
  • You will be eager to develop your industry knowledge as-well as be prepared to undergo further study and training where appropriate.
  • You must be able to research, analyse, and interpret a diverse range of information.
  • You will have the ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
