The Royal Household's Property Section is a team of highly skilled property professionals dedicated to the capital works, operation, and maintenance of The King's official residences and other properties within the Occupied Royal Palaces.

The estate features a diverse range of buildings from residential apartments and offices to stables, galleries, and public visitor attractions, all maintained to the highest standards of excellence. Working here offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the upkeep of these historic buildings while supporting the Royal Household's journey towards sustainability and Net Zero by 2040 (and interim targets).

In this role you will specifically focus on how The Royal Household can reduce its carbon emissions across all its estate. With a focus on Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) you'll manage a varied portfolio of decarbonisation projects; this will involve researching and designing innovative strategies that will not only contribute to the overall reduction in our carbon footprint but also create pathways for other organisations to join up in order to create a stronger overall impact.

This role can be based either at Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace with expected travel to both locations as well as other sites.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Project Manager, you will:

  • Develop and implement a strategic decarbonisation plan for our entire estate, in collaboration with senior management and sustainability experts.
  • Lead the Windsor Castle heating project from initial scoping to technical design, construction, and handover.
  • Conduct market research on sustainable technologies and integrate them into the decarbonisation strategy.
  • Oversee the end-to-end management of complex and major projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery, as well as assisting other Project Managers with projects that include decarbonisation to ensure a common approach is undertaken.
  • Ensure all projects comply with statutory requirements, internal policies, and risk management practices.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, manage budgets, and ensure all procurement processes provide excellent value for money.
  • Proactively manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress and impact.
  • Support and mentor team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Essential Criteria

  • A degree (or professional certifications) in a relevant subject combined with substantial experience as a Senior Project Manager, with a strong technical background in Mechanical/Electrical engineering or sustainable technologies.
  • Extensive experience managing multi-site estates and historic buildings.
  • Exceptional project and programme management skills, with the ability to handle complex and high-profile projects within an occupied environment, with a strong focus on customer service in all you'll do.
  • Diplomatic and collaborative in your approach, you have strong stakeholder and communication skills, able to guide and influence at all levels.
  • Proven commercial acumen in budget management, cost control, and contract management. Strong IT skills with experience of programme management software will also be important.
  • A logical problem-solver with good judgement, capable of making decisions in a fast-paced environment and adapting to changing circumstances.
