Salary and grade: £26,369 - £30,797 Grade 3
Duration of role: Permanent
Hours per week: 37 (Seasonal Summer and Winter split)
Location: The designated office base is Unit C Hithercroft, Wallingford and operations are from Crowmarsh Gifford

About the role and what we're looking for

Job purpose

Undertake general grounds maintenance duties across the districts ensuring a very high standard of work is maintained at all times

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Maintenance duties include both mechanical and manual operations and will cover a broad range of grounds maintenance operations including grass cutting, litter collection, maintenance of features such as shrub beds, hedges, seasonal bedding, play equipment, sports pitches and any other associated tasks in our parks and open spaces.
  • Operate a range of grounds maintenance vehicles and associated equipment.
  • Skilled / licensed to drive a council vehicle with trailer including manage the log sheets / daily safety checks for both
  • Responsible for inspecting the tools and equipment issued to their team to ensure they are fit for purpose and reporting broken or damaged equipment to line manager for replacement
  • Responsible for ensuring team colleagues are wearing appropriate PPE and are operating to prescribed safe systems of work
  • Responsible for the health and safety of yourself, your work colleagues and others who may be affected by the activity, working in accordance with the safety policies of the councils.
  • Responsible for managing allocated workload via Concerto app on a mobile tablet device
  • Undertake any relevant training which may be deemed necessary to ensure duties are carried out effectively.

The duties may vary from time to time without changing the nature of the post or the level of responsibility and the post holder may also be required to carry out any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post. This may include working at the weekend for which overtime is paid.

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Enjoy working outdoors.
  • Good communication skills to engage with team members and the public where appropriate.
  • Ability to demonstrate good team working skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Strong customer service skills

Your essential qualifications

  • GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C or above or equivalent
  • Full driving licence
  • City and Guilds level 2 in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent
  • City and Guilds (NPTC) PA1 and PA6A, safe use of pesticides or equivalent

If you have the following experience or qualifications – it's a bonus

  • Use of chainsaw certificates (various modules)
  • First aider
  • Knowledge and understanding of working in a local government setting

Work related requirements:

This role has been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2017; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies.
