Nature Conservation Manager

  • Hourly Rate: £24.58 PAYE / £32.19 LTD/UMB
  • Location: Islington, North London
  • Job Type: Temporary, Full-time (35 hours per week)

We are seeking a dedicated Nature Conservation Manager to oversee the management of Islington's Ecology Centre, three Local Nature Reserves, and the Nature Conservation Team. The role involves delivering a high-quality programme of environmental education, coordinating events, and facilitating volunteering opportunities. The successful candidate will also lead on the Council's biodiversity agenda and provide ecological advice to the Planning Department.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage the Ecology Centre, ensuring it serves as a valuable community resource for environmental education and activities.
  • Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of three Local Nature Reserves.
  • Lead and support the Nature Conservation Team in their various projects and initiatives.
  • Implement and monitor the Biodiversity Action Plan for Islington.
  • Maintain the network of Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs).
  • Provide expert ecological advice to the Planning Department, contributing to sustainable development in the area.
  • Engage with the community through the organisation of events and volunteer programmes that promote conservation and biodiversity.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in nature conservation management and environmental education.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Knowledge of biodiversity action planning and ecological principles.
  • Experience providing ecological advice within a planning context.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders.
