We're looking for an experienced Buyer to join an innovative company (with excellent benefits!) based in Hook, Hampshire, who operate in the electronics sector.
Working in a procurement team of 5 people, you will be responsible for owning 7-8 strategic / critical suppliers for direct categories and a mix of suppliers for indirect categories, with an annual spend between £2.5m - £3.5m (95% of this being direct).
This includes:
- Processing requisitions, updating inventory, and managing stock levels making sure stock levels are up to date (especially when Liability Agreements and Buffer agreements are in place).
- Arranging transport of goods and tracking orders to ensure timely delivery.
- Instigates process improvements to support Sales and Inhouse targets via skilled negotiations with the suppliers.
- Responsible for the accuracy of MRP status data (lead-time, batch size, payment terms, unit costs, etc.), relating to relevant suppliers and purchased parts.
- Function as the focal person for contact between relevant suppliers and sales team and service delivery team)
- Effectively negotiates with suppliers, to achieve lowest overall acquisition cost for the business.
- Leads benchmarking processes with the support of the Procurement Manager and working with the sales team to make sure the most qualified suppliers are approved and prices in place.
- Present business case proposals (vulnerability, cost downs, etc) to Procurement Manager and Operations director.
- With the support from the Procurement Manager, manages and evaluates risk effectively with suppliers and manages the risk to the business.
- Leads, evaluates, and negotiates tender/request for quotation (RFQ) process for new and existing suppliers/parts. Understands and conveys the impact of the commodity market on our product and processes.
- Evaluates supplier's financial information and manages the findings of the financial evaluation/risk assessment constructively.
- Confident at managing both UK and overseas suppliers.
- Support relevant new product build activities involving suppliers as required.
- Take full ownership of new product parts, (simulated costs, data sheets, quotes, inspection, launch set-up, parts for builds, etc.) from order placement through to availability ready to send to our customers.
- Working knowledge of the technologies, processes, and materials relevant to own commodity areas.
- Actively investigates alternative materials and manufacturing processes and presents findings to Procurement Manager and Operations Director
- Deliver cost savings through skilled negotiation.
- Collaborate with suppliers to deliver cost reduction through component re-design, material change, continuous improvement activities, etc.
- Lead problem-solving initiatives with suppliers and Quality Manager to determine root causes returns, quality issues and ensure preventative actions are implemented.
- Agree Purchasing Agreements and SLAs (service level agreements- when applicable) with the Service suppliers. This with the approval and support of Procurement Manager.
About YOU!
- 3+ years' purchasing / procurement experience.
- Experience in sourcing direct categories (indirect categories is also a bonus).
- Experience with Far East suppliers (desirable).
- Experience in procuring electronic components / cabling (desirable).
- CIPS (level 4) qualified (desirable).
- Negotiation experience - internal and external.
- Able to work unsupervised.
- Ability and willingness to learn.
- Problem-solving techniques to resolve immediate issues.
- Identifies trends as they occur and proactively puts in place long-term resolutions, which prevent problems reoccurring.
- Multi tasks with ease.
- Organised and can prioritise and manage time whilst achieving deadlines.
- Monitors their own work and checks their own accuracy.
- Listens and responds effectively using all communication tools.
- Effectively questions and analyses in a clear and confident manner and checks as to whether they have been understood.
