School Attendance Officer

We are looking for an experienced Attendance Officer to join a thriving and dynamic primary school with a strong community focus, providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for young learners. This full-time role, working between 8am and 3:30/4pm, starting as soon as possible and will be on a supply basis, with the potential for further opportunities.

The Attendance Officer will play a key role in supporting the school's mission to promote excellent attendance and punctuality. Working closely with the school's leadership team, teachers, and parents, the successful candidate will ensure that attendance is tracked accurately and that any concerns are addressed swiftly and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately record and manage pupil attendance using the school's data systems, ensuring timely submission of registers.
  • Liaison with parents and carers proactively to follow up on unexplained or persistent absences, offering support and guidance where needed.
  • Ensure that attendance records are up-to-date and comply with statutory requirements. Produce regular attendance reports for the leadership team and external agencies.
  • Work with staff to identify and support students at risk of falling behind due to poor attendance. Coordinate attendance action plans and work with external agencies as necessary.
  • Assist in the development of strategies to promote high attendance levels, including working with the leadership team to create attendance incentives and campaigns.
  • Ensure that attendance procedures are aligned with the school's safeguarding policies, identifying potential welfare concerns linked to attendance.

About You: We are seeking a candidate with:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within a primary or infant school setting.
  • The ability to engage positively with parents, staff, and external agencies.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
  • Confident use of IT systems, particularly in managing attendance databases (knowledge of systems like SIMS or equivalent is beneficial).
  • Knowledge of statutory attendance regulations and the ability to ensure compliance.
