Flexible Teaching Assistant

Posted by Prospero Teaching.

Prospero Teaching are recruiting individuals to work as Teaching Assistants to work on a flexible supply basis at a specialist High school in Oldham. Suited to this role are those who cannot commit to full time work, or would like the flexibility of choosing your own shifts to work around other commitments.

The school is for children aged 11-16 years old with moderate and complex learning difficulties, and those on the autism spectrum. Students attending receive a tailored curriculum best suited to their needs and ability and the school offers a fantastic approach to learning.

Working as an Ad-Hoc Teaching Assistant, you'd be placed where needed on that particular day and would uphold all the usual duties of a Teaching Assistant. We encourage those working on flexible supply to show eagerness, confidence and an ability to get 'stuck in' using initiative drawn on experience.

The role would consist of:

  • Liaising with your consultant at the beginning of the week to agree on a availability for shifts that week and being on standby from 7am for morning calls to be instructed about work available
  • Providing tailored support with working with children and SEN
  • Creating a safe environment that allows children to have fun, learn and succeed
  • Academic support 1:1 basis or in small groups
  • Assisting the teacher

The ideal candidate:

  • Someone who can demonstrate the necessary nurturing qualities required to work closely with SEN children
  • Ideally with previous experience caring for those with additional needs
  • Teaching Assistant qualification is ideal but not essential
