Vetting Officer

Service Care Solutions are looking for a Vetting Officer to work within the Cheshire Constabulary on a 7-month contract.

Location: Winsford

Job role/responsibilities:
To provide an effective and efficient service which supports the requirements of the Vetting Code of Practice and APP for the Police Community.

  • Validate vetting requests by quality assuring applications, identifying anomalies, and rejecting unauthorised or incomplete submissions to ensure compliance with the Vetting APP.
  • Manage and update Vetting Management systems with sensitive information, ensuring accurate maintenance in line with Force requirements.
  • Conduct detailed research of policing systems, open sources, and third-party information per the Vetting APP, aligning inquiries with the required vetting level to locate relevant records and material.
  • Analyse and assess information for relevance, identifying issues related to individuals' suitability for employment.
  • Prepare case files and concise reports recommending granting or declining vetting status to assist the Vetting Manager and Deputy Vetting Manager.
  • Apply the Vetting Code of Practice, APP, and associated documentation (e.g., Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, Data Compliance, and Code of Ethics) to ensure compliance and efficient application processing.
  • Conduct checks on the Counter Terrorism database to identify any links to extreme groups, initiating inquiries with Counter Terrorism Intelligence Officers as needed.
  • Act as the first point of contact, providing advice to Force personnel, agencies, and the public to ensure accuracy and compliance with the Vetting APP.
  • Initiate and send requests for checks to other Police Forces and agencies, following up to ensure timely completion.
  • Monitor the departmental mailbox, responding to emails and taking necessary actions within agreed timelines.

Knowledge/Experience required:

  • Educated to Level 3 of the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) or with equivalent relevant experience.
  • Some experience in an administrative role (preferably customer-facing).
  • Some experience of working in an investigative, analytical or research environment.
  • Would need to be or become competent in Niche/PNC/PND.
