Maintenance Manager needed in London - SW7 - A fantastic opportunity has arisen within a private independent education provider and one of the most well-respected independent college brands in the UK.

Event spaces range in scale from the expansive Event Hall, which can accommodate up to 250 guests in various configurations, to individual meeting rooms used as break-out spaces, or for stand-alone conferences, training, or interviews.

You will take an active and leading role in maintaining the facilities at the institution. There will be regular and time-dependent works you will undertake yourself, as well as others managed through contractor appointments under your supervision. Larger projects and plant maintenance will be handled through established partners, which you will also manage.

Alongside the Facilities Manager, you will take a leading role in ensuring best practices in building management, operations, and health and safety for all users of the facilities.

  • Work closely with team members and various project team members during the final refurbishment and development of the buildings.
  • Provide input on the priorities for ongoing refurbishment and maintenance. Take an active role in delivering maintenance solutions and sourcing contractors where necessary.
  • Act as the first point of contact for both routine and emergency maintenance issues. Work with existing and new contractors to resolve issues in a cost-effective manner.
  • Establish and develop strong relationships with supplier networks.
  • Ensure the building meets high standards of cleanliness and is a positive contributor to the institution's brand.
  • Have a keen eye for cost savings and minimize wastage and environmental impact of the building and its activities.
  • Work closely with the existing buildings management team to develop a unified strategy for various support contracts such as security, cleaning, and health and safety.
  • Maintain accurate records for health and safety, maintenance, and other areas of statutory compliance, utilizing the record system.
  • Stay updated on current legislation and changes in health and safety, fire prevention, and other areas of compliance.
  • Ensure staff are properly trained and adhere to Health and Safety Policies and expected customer engagement (internal/external).

Building Management:

  • Develop and implement facilities management policies and procedures to ensure the effective operation of the premises.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and security systems.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and service providers for maintenance, repairs, and renovations, ensuring quality and performance supervision.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards.

Health & Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Ensure that reporting and record management meet full compliance.
  • Carry out and supervise water hygiene.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in maintenance management is essential, preferably in a commercial or education environment.
  • Practical skills to undertake minor repairs, more extensive experience in one or more of the trades would be beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and facilities management software.
  • Certification in facilities management (e.g., CFM, FMP) is desirable but not mandatory.
