Import / Export Assistant (10 month Contract)

Are you an experienced energetic Import/Export Assistant and are looking to join a very successful and established company to work in their busy import/export department? Do you have outstanding communication and IT skills and are able to start work immediately? This position is to cover a 10 month fixed term maternity contract with the possibility of this becoming a permanent role. There is a salary of £26,000 plus many benefits

The Role:

  • Prepare & submit accurate customs declarations for EU or NON-EU clients.
  • Verify C88 document details such as the origin and customs codes into CDS.
  • Understand and double-check manufacturer & commercial invoices.
  • Ensure insurance and freight costs are included in C88 submissions.
  • Collate all documents (where required) prior to arrival of the goods.
  • Submit invoice data into the Corporate Accounting team.
  • Manage communications and requests with local & national authorities.
  • Conducting internal audits of customs related documents for accuracy and work with colleagues to amend discrepancies & raise knowledge levels.
  • Act as the escalation point for all operational queries.
  • Respond to any system failures and invoke fall-back procedures if necessary.
  • Coordinate with couriers to facilitate the smooth clearance of goods through customs and resolve any issues that may arise during the process.
  • Assess and correctly code/identify products for export with the latest tariff codes and country of origin, required for customs export paperwork when shipping goods.
  • Be proactive in identifying any changes within the tariff system issued by HMRC.
  • Prepare and review all necessary import/export documentation and that all imports are registered correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all records are up to date (import transactions, customs clearance documents, shipping records).
  • Work closely with the finance department to monitor and control import-related costs, ensuring that budgets are adhered to, and cost-saving opportunities are identified.
  • Proactively identify and address any issues related to import processes, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to find effective solutions.
  • Maintain and manage import files, investigate differences, add corrections, and reconcile HMRC statements.

About You:

  • You will have at least 2 years experience within a busy Import/export department
  • IT Competent
