Senior Commercial Lawyer

Sheffield City Council is looking for a Senior Commercial Lawyer to lead their Local Authority Commercial and Employment Team. This pivotal role involves providing legal advice and support on a variety of commercial matters, with a direct impact on the city and its residents.
Day to Day of the role:
- Lead and manage the Local Authority Commercial and Employment Team, including lawyers and support staff.
- Oversee caseloads related to commercial contracts, employment law, and other legal matters.
- Provide strategic guidance to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts.
- Offer advice on existing and proposed commercial arrangements.
- Resolve commercial disputes and ensure compliance with procurement legislation.
- Advise on employment-related legal issues, including contracts, policies, and procedures.
- Represent the council in employment tribunals when necessary.
- Collaborate with various council departments and liaise with external stakeholders.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Qualified as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Demonstrable experience in local authority commercial work and employment law.
- Strong knowledge of public procurement and subsidy control.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to provide balanced risk-based advice.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
