Here at Serco, we are seeking a Payroll SME who will be responsible for several contracts, ensuring all variable input is actioned in a timely manner in the payrolls in accordance with LWI's and checklists. Serco's UK payroll and pensions team is responsible for the accurate and timely payment of all UK based employees. There are approximately 23,000 employees who are paid weekly, fortnightly, four weekly and monthly across several different PAYE registrations. This role has extensive touch points and liaises across a diverse Serco community including Contract managers and employees, Human Resources, Pensions, Internal and External Audit and the business finance team.

As part of this you'll:

  • Assist the UK Service Delivery Manager in ensuring all payrolls are processed in accordance with payroll calendars and remain compliant with legislative requirements.
  • Accurately and promptly input operational payroll data into Serco payroll systems.
  • Administer Local Government Pension Schemes, NHS pensions, and auto-enrollment processes.
  • Update pension administration systems (SAP, ResourceLink) to reflect changes in employee information.
  • Process monthly payment and contribution schedules.
  • Handle monthly refunds and execute HMRC processes using the ResourceLink payroll software.
  • Ensure timely recovery and payment of employee overpayments and returned payments.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service by interacting with customers, responding to inquiries, and effectively managing complaints.

What you'll need to do the role:

  • In depth knowledge of payroll and pensions processes and procedures in a similar sized organisation.
  • Good knowledge of Payroll legislation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills and proficient with MS Excel and Word.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage team members.
  • Able to focus on results, work to deadlines and meet performance targets.
  • Delivering a customer-focussed service.
