The Role – Senior Space Planning Manager
This is a new role to Jollyes – The Pet People, within our Commercial team. As our Senior Space Planning Manager, you would be responsible for the creation of the space planning function and lead that process for Jollyes. Partnering with the commercial teams to deliver BU space allocation, translating commercial plans into a grading framework to maximise return on space and stock. Driving revenue and profit by identifying opportunities that optimize retail space.
A full job description is available on request, but to summarise your key responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of the space strategy and systems for Jollyes, ensuring they are consistent with the broader business brand.
- Working closely with commercial teams to ensure stock is optimised and aligns to planned space through display type management, Stock Dashboard, ROS and shelf fill.
- Drive space productivity using space data, insight, and analytics to inform grading optimisation, densities, ratios, space % and space allocation.
- Responsible for ongoing space and equipment audits
- Share Space performance data with commercial teams weekly basis calling out opportunities for improvement.
- Ensuring the most optimal view of space is allocated to new stores and refit blueprints.
- Continually refine the processes, challenging ways of working
- Own store layouts from seasonal changes through to BAU retail trading; taking projects from ideation to instore implementation
- Working with other colleagues from supply chain, property, retail and commercial teams to influence and input into planning of new stores and ensure consistent execution of space.
The Skills – Space Planning Manager
To be successful in this role, you'll need the following skills, experience and qualities:
- Previous proven experience in a senior space planning role, this is not a ‘step up' or development opportunity but needs someone with the required expertise to set up and develop the function.
- Space planning software experience essential i.e. JDA Space planning, Relex Space Planning or equivalent
- Strong understanding of the Space/Merchandising critical path, process flows, competencies, and activities and knowledge of merchandising operations processes
- Excellent knowledge of the Space and Merchandising theory and routines
- Has drive and ownership, resilience, and determination to achieve results
- Use of Excel to analyse key data and forecasts with strong numerical and analytical skills, able to interpret customer behaviour insights
- An influential person with excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Good understanding of the customer experience with a background in retail / commercial functions, and knowledge of retail priorities and drivers for success
- Detail oriented approach with a focus on accuracy and precision in planogram design
- Commercial awareness of the retail business with experience of forecasting and budgeting
