Senior Finance Officer

What you will be doing.....

You will provide financial information and advice to service departments, promoting best value and risk management. Conduct complex accounting tasks and support service departments in achieving their objectives. Foster strong working relationships with colleagues within the Finance Team and across other departments. Uphold fairness and inclusion in service delivery and employment practices.

Ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting procedures. Analyse financial and service performance data to inform decision-making. Support service areas with budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Represent the Finance Team in internal working groups and projects. Ensure accurate accounting of income and expenditure. Deliver and participate in training events to improve financial literacy. Undertake complex financial activities, including corporate projects and government reporting.

Supervise finance officers and apprentices and promote continuous improvement by staying up-to-date, ensuring data quality, and maximizing value for money.

What you will need to offer

  • ...
  • Professional Qualification: AAT or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience: Minimum three years of practical experience in financial services.
  • Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, able to deal with officers at all levels.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse and interpret complex numerical information and prepare detailed reports.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in financial systems, spreadsheet models, and word-processing packages.
  • Understanding of Financial Services: Knowledge of how financial services contribute to effective service delivery, with an understanding of local government finance and public sector procurement rules.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work collaboratively, manage staff, and maintain effective time management.
