Summary

The face of our engagement work with young people, you will inspire them to become conservation champions and lovers of all things outdoors. You'll lead sessions, supporting young people to learn the skills to look after local green spaces.

Interview date: 19 or 20 November 2024

Working hours: 30hrs including some weekends

Type of contract: Fixed term

Salary: £21,746.40 including Outer London Weighting of £2,652.00 (pro rata)

This role is required to work with vulnerable groups including children and any offer of employment or volunteering is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

The ability to work weekends, bank holidays and evenings is essential.

What you'll be doing

With your endless passion for encouraging young people through nature, you'll lead sessions teaching them to care for habitats and wildlife. You will encourage young people to love green spaces, big and small, as much as you do.

You'll make sure that we're delivering outstanding outdoors experiences and excellent conservation work. You'll build relationships in the local community, making sure we can be relevant to the lives and needs of young people.

Whether you're maintaining local green spaces with young people, engaging the community at events or working with schools, colleges and youth groups across the borough, no two days will be the same.

You'll also share and promote the work that we do here, ensuring special places like these are here to be both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever. After all, your passion and dedication could fire the imagination that makes a young person become a supporter for the rest of their life.

Who we're looking for

You'll need to;

  • Have an open mind and positive attitude towards engaging young people from a diverse range of backgrounds including a dedication to the inclusion of marginalised or minoritised people.
  • Experience of planning and delivering engagement and practical activities that help build or strengthen connections with nature and the outdoors, particularly amongst young people (aged 11-25).
  • Experience (formal or informal) of helping people to develop practical conservation skills and enable them to design, develop and deliver their own small scale conservation projects.
  • Good communication skills enabling positive relationships both internally and externally.
  • Experience of working with volunteers, including being able to train, empower and support them to perform at their best.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety compliance requirements and experience of producing risk assessments for day-to-day operations.
