Job Title: Legal Counsel

Location: Hoddesdon / Agile but may consider other locations for the right candidate.

Contract: Full time & Permanent; 37.5 hours per week. Applications are also welcome from suitable candidates requiring school hours only or other flexible working arrangements (salary pro-rata).

At RMG we manage small and large blocks and estates for RMC (Resident Management Companies), L&T (Landlord & Tenant) and Developers.

What will you be doing?

Reporting to our Legal and Compliance Director and working alongside other Legal Counsel the role will have a non-contentious residential property management focus (both landlord and tenant and freehold property management). However, there will be opportunities to expand into a variety of other areas of in-house legal practice.

The principal focus of the role will be dealing with new business, property and commercial contracting for RMG. There will be some procurement of external legal services (including for clients), supporting other teams from across the business in the delivery of property management activities, data protection compliance, property sales transactions and company secretarial practice.

  • Providing expert support and assistance as part of the Legal Team to the Legal and Compliance Director in advising on and mitigating legal risk across the business.

  • Managing a day-to-day case load of property related advice, including advising on contracts and new business opportunities/contracts.

  • Providing legal advice that is pragmatic/practical and supporting other teams in the business in the delivery of their services to RMG's clients, including the Property Management, Property Services, Debt Recovery, Solicitors Enquiries and Company Secretarial teams.

  • Feeding back to the business on opportunities to mitigate legal risk, increase efficiencies or generate additional revenue.

  • Assisting with procuring external legal advice for RMG and its clients in relation to property transactions, and the procurement of external legal services for RMG.

  • Assisting in identifying key legal risks in business propositions and helping to mitigate those risks.

  • Participating in legal and company strategy with key internal business stakeholders and the wider Places for People Group Legal Team

  • Providing support to the Legal and Compliance Director in relation to:

  • new legislative proposals and other legal developments relevant to its operating environment

  • Business contracts and contract management

  • Data protection compliance

  • Complaints

  • Other regulatory compliance (FCA, AML, H&S etc)

  • Policy development and monitoring.

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Qualified practicing solicitor or barrister
  • +4 years PQE Solicitor (in-house or private practice)
  • Experience of commercial contracts

Preferred:

  • Experience of property and or commercial contracting
  • Familiarity with conveyancing practice and landlord and tenant law
  • Basic company secretarial understanding
