Environmental Health Officer (Food Hygiene)

Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Environmental Health Officer for our client local government organisation based in Southampton.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of professional environmental health service through the provision of expert advice and regulatory action.

This is a 3 month starting contract with the possibility to extend. Hybrid working is available.

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Undertake surveys, investigations and research; carry out inspections; keep records; prepare reports and legal notices, schedules and correspondence; and take appropriate action including enforcement action as may be necessary to deliver the environmental health service.
  • Inspect plans, investigate and consider any development proposals in relation to the environmental health service's functions and responsibilities, giving advice, making recommendations and taking appropriate action.
  • Provide expert advice to businesses and individuals to support compliance with environmental health legislation.
  • Remain aware of environmental health legislative and policy developments (including Council policy related to the duties and responsibilities of the post, in accordance with the principles of continuous professional development and participate in any relevant training as required.
  • Attend and represent the environmental health service as required by the service manager at relevant meetings.
  • Liaise with and consult other officers or external organisations, as necessary, or as required by law, in the interests of providing an effective environmental health service.
  • Advise members of the public, elected Members and others on any matter within the professional or technical competence or knowledge of the postholder.

Personal Requirements:

  • Qualified environmental health officer with a relevant degree or diploma.
  • Achievement of chartered environmental practitioner status (Desirable).
  • Registration with the environmental health registration board (Desirable).
  • Working knowledge of applying environmental health legislation and guidance in practical situations.
  • Experience of inspecting premises and investigating complaints in accordance with food hygiene or health and safety legislation and taking appropriate enforcement action.
  • Experience of investigation of infectious disease notifications.

Working Hours: 09:00am - 17:00pm, Monday - Friday

Pay: £28.45 p/h
