Dispatch Driver

Adecco are pleased to be recruiting for a Dispatch Driver to join Merseyside Police. Your base would be the Rose Hill HQ in Liverpool.

The rate is £12.01 per hour, working Monday - Friday, 36.5 hours, 7am - 3pm. This would be a temporary post initially for 1 year.

Job Purpose: To provide an efficient goods and mail collection and delivery service to locations across the Force.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Through use of a Force vehicle, collect and deliver mail and goods to locations across the Force, according to a set schedule and frequency and where necessary, sort mail in locations.
  • Ensure mail reaches its destination as quickly as possible to ensure Force communication is not compromised. This service extends to some buildings owned/occupied by other agencies and partners.
  • When required, collect mail from Royal Mail sorting offices and, if necessary, deliver items to Post Offices to ensure that they meet local collection schedules.
  • Transport items to include, cash, property, forensic items and other evidence items and when necessary, use mechanical aids to assist with loading and unloading vehicles.
  • On occasions transport personnel to other locations in the Force to ensure that operational needs are met. In addition provide support for the Area Porters when necessary.
  • Undertake all duties associated with use of a police vehicle, ensuring that all necessary records are kept, all necessary checks completed at the correct frequency and the vehicle is kept clean. Report any faults on the vehicle assisting in the upkeep of the vehicle.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • The post holder must hold a current full clean driving licence and will be required to qualify as a Police Vehicle Driver at the appropriate level and to maintain the qualification and will be responsible for carrying out the daily and periodic checks required on the vehicle assigned.
  • Knowledge of Police Station locations and Departments within Merseyside Police.
  • Knowledge of the location of partner and agency buildings and Royal Mail Sorting Offices and Post Offices.
  • The post holder must have good communication and customer service skills and, as a minimum, possess sufficient IT skills to utilise the Force e-mail system and Intranet.
  • Post holder must be physically fit and undertake manual handling training to ensure safe handling of items.
  • Knowledge of security measures, what constitutes a suspicious package and what cause of action should be taken.
  • The post holder must have knowledge of safe lifting procedures and methods.
  • Knowledge of appropriate Force systems.

PLEASE NOTE - DUE TO POLICE CRITERIA YOU MUST HAVE LIVED IN THE UK FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 3 YEARS TO APPLY FOR THIS ROLE. Anything less will not be considered.
