Position Overview:

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Desford team as the Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Manager. This position will provide direction, support, and ownership for all Safety, Health, and Wellbeing activities on-site, as well as facilitate the Environmental management standards as part of the business's Integrated Management System (IMS)

The role holder will manage the systems and processes with site management that exist to monitor and control our compliance to legislation, internal policies as well as being the lead of both internal and external audits and proactive SHE improvement activities.

They will be the individual on site who will guide and influence Operational Management to maintain high standards, champion innovation and solutions to issues, promote positive culture and safe working practices and deliver the IMS to prove compliance. They will share best practice from other parts of the business or external forums to drive continuous improvement. They will provide training to their operational management teams using the tools provided in the IMS system and be the visible face of health, safety and wellbeing throughout the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety, Health, and Wellbeing Leadership: Provide leadership and direction for all Safety, Health, and Wellbeing activities on site.
  • Environmental Management: Facilitate the implementation and maintenance of Environmental management standards as part of the IMS.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Manage systems and processes with site management to monitor and control compliance with legislation, internal policies, and standards.
  • Audit Management: Lead both internal and external audits related to SHE standards and compliance.
  • Proactive Improvement: Drive proactive SHE improvement activities and initiatives.
  • Operational Guidance: Guide and influence Operational Management to maintain high standards, promote innovation, and implement solutions to issues.
  • Cultural Promotion: Promote a positive culture of safe working practices and wellbeing throughout the plant.
  • Integrated Management System Delivery: Deliver the IMS to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Best Practice Sharing: Share best practices from other parts of the business or external forums to drive continuous improvement.
  • Training and Development: Provide training to operational management teams using the tools provided in the IMS system.
  • Visibility and Engagement: Be the visible face of health, safety, and wellbeing throughout the plant, engaging with employees at all levels
  • Task Authorizations: Oversee the issuance of task authorizations for employees using SP008.F7.
  • Policy Implementation: Communicate and implement policies and procedures with operational management.
  • Objective Assistance: Assist the site in meeting their health and safety objectives, which form part of the 3-year manufacturing excellence program.
  • Action Management: Manage the actions that arise from external audits, inspections, incidents, and external reports, working with the site team to ensure timely resolution

About You:

  • Confident nature, with the ability to talk to colleagues throughout the site to promote good safety behaviours.
  • Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to use computer systems (Intelex and SharePoint) plus Microsoft applications
  • Generate new ideas to improve performance, translating these ideas into practical solutions.
  • High level of organisational skills.
  • A confident presenter of data, facts and information.
  • Flexible approach to work and prioritisation of tasks.
  • Ability to work over multiple sites (where job role requires).
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a hands-on operational environment.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and being a visible presence on the shop floor.
  • To be able to attend divisional Building Safety Together meetings and SHE Coordinator meetings as necessary away from home site.

Education / Qualification:

  • NEBOSH certificate (or equivalent level) in Safety Management as a minimum, desire to work towards Diploma or equivalent.
  • Good working knowledge and application of ISO management systems, specifically ISO 45001.
  • Ideally have an IEMA 2 day Managing with Environmental Sustainability (or equivalent course) or be on an internal development program to bring them to this level.
  • Auditor experience in any of the following ISO management systems.
  • Full Driving Licence
