About our Client

Our client is a Final year Zoology student who is studying her degree at the University of Reading. She has a diagnosis of Athetoid Cerebral Palsy and is a full-time wheelchair user. The client leads a very active social life by meeting up with friends and family. She enjoys going to the cinema, karaoke bars and watching sci fi shows such as Doctor Who.With a joyful and delightful persona, as well as a good sense of humour, our client enjoys going out to various social events.

As written by her...

" Hi, my name is Katherine, I have Athetoid Cerebral Palsy, and I use an electric wheelchair.Everything I can do; I will do myself and I do not like asking for help. As a result, I often hint at things I want doing instead of actually asking. I can sometimes get grumpy and down when I am tired and in pain but will get back to my chirpy self fairly quickly.

I like to look my best, so hair and makeup is a passion of mine. I am also interested in nature and animals, and thus, will always take the opportunity to watch a David Attenborough documentary. This is why I love my Zoology degree!

The things I'm looking for in a new P.A. is someone with things in common with me, someone who takes initiative, and most of all, someone with a sense of humour.

My day will vary depending on my uni timetable, but on a day that I don't have morning lectures, I will lie in until about 10:30am (depending on how well I've slept during the night). I use a scribe as I can't write myself so it would be great if you could write everything down that is said!

I have a pet bearded dragon called Dumbles, so the job will involve feeding her and the crickets veg, feeding her the live crickets, poo picking once or twice a week, and just getting her out to have a cuddle!

I can get socially anxious however, so will need some gentle encouragement when meeting new people. On nights out, I will definitely make the most of the university's very own nightclub! Someone that can help drive the car would be great, as public transport isn't the most accessible option in Reading. Again, if you're driving, you will be insured on my car through 3rd party insurance.

I hope this has given you the chance to see if the job is right for you and I hope to hear from you soon"

As well as this, there will be some housekeeping required as well as managing medications and our client's care routine.

Care experience is not required as full training in our client's particular requirements will be provided.
