Role: Engineering Manager

Team: Web Development

Location: Remote first; with fortnightly to monthly face-to-face in Gloucester.

Tech: Blazor, C#, Azure, ADO, HTML, CSS. Moq, NUnit, bUnit, Automapper, Playwright, Umbraco, static site generation, Bootstrap, JMeter.

Role

As an Engineering Manager at Howden, you will become part of and lead two agile teams. You will harness you people-first approach and agile coaching to help our teams grow and strive for high performance.

You will participate in regular agile sessions, collaborating closely with your team to deliver our roadmap whilst supporting each engineer (typically ~10 direct reports) in their teams to help them grow, build resilience, solve challenges, and provide them with access to training needs whilst encouraging and adopting best practices.

This is a role suited to technical people leaders but there is no direct coding needed.

As part of our leadership team and reporting to the Head of Web Development you will attend and facilitate leadership sessions, community of practice sessions in a particular discipline e.g. UI/UX or QA, foster cross team collaboration, and be responsible for and support hiring needs across the group.

About you:

  • A keen understanding of the broader technological landscape.
  • You will have a strong understanding of people leadership and how to get the best out of a team and know how to measure this.
  • A keen eye for detail and a focus our putting users first
  • An understanding of accessibility needs and relevant standards.
  • Deeply understands the value in Test-driven Development and group programming activities.
  • You have had strong understanding of Azure Cloud technologies.
  • A strong communicator and able to seek feedback early and often.
  • A bias towards action.
  • An experimental and scientific mindset leading to data-led decision making.
  • An understanding of agile development methodologies, particularly scrum and kanban.
  • The value of continuous delivery practices and iterative development (CI/CD)
  • Delivering on observability and monitoring capabilities
  • Previous experience of people leadership and agile coaching.
