Team Leader Building Control

Our client based in Kent is currently recruiting for a Team Leader Building Control to join the team.

This is a part time, temporary, ongoing position.

The purpose of the role is to provide leadership and the strategic delivery of Building control chargeable, non-chargeable, statutory and discretionary services as well as working with other Council teams and stakeholders to assist in delivering quality construction across the borough.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership to your team by keeping staff motivated, providing regular review and feedback sessions, identifying career development paths for individuals and opportunities to broaden experience within the service, and managing poor performance.
  • Lead and promote the Building Control function as set out within an annual business and marketing plan, defining service levels, financial and human resources and manage the day to day operations of the Team to ensure that a fast and professional service is delivered to all clients.
  • Exercise delegated authority to determine all building regulation applications. Reports and decision for relaxations and determinations. Expert witness for formal enforcement action.
  • Provide financial management including annual budget setting including the determination of fees and charges, (executive function), in accordance with CIPFA and Statutory Instrument that ensure break even or better in the trading account, excellent customer satisfaction and retention of market share.
  • Ensure that the day to day workloads for inspections, plan examination and accepting or rejecting of notices are carried out in a timely way in line with the Council's policies and performance standards to provide excellent customer service and reliability.

Requirements:

  • HND/C or Degree/Diploma in Building/ Engineering
  • Senior level experience in building Control environment
  • Good working knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation
  • Good financial management skills to manage budgets and staff resources
