Job Purpose:

To develop effective transport routes, plans and control resources ensuring customer and business requirements are achieved while complying with legal responsibilities. To manage the sourcing and booking of vehicles in line with company procedures.

Main Responsibilities and Objectives:

Responsibilities & Objectives

  • To develop and control an agreed number of resources (vehicles, drivers) ensuring all legal constraints are adhered to (Weight limits, Working Time Directive and EU drivers' hours regulations)
  • Negotiating prices with subcontract drivers
  • Produce effective transport plans guided by the operating mode
  • Produce route planning data from customers bulk requests and supply the most cost- effective solution
  • Effective management of the driver's day through the Radius tracking system
  • Ensure all vehicle compliance and Health and Safety processes are adhered to
  • Ensure all driver hours are accurately recorded in the Tru Tac system
  • Ensure all driver PODs are accurate
  • Understanding and achieving specific targets regarding required margin, costs per mile and utilisation
  • Ensure allocated customer work is planned to time and correct equipment is efficiently utilised
  • Constantly communicate with customer services and drivers to ensure customer KPI targets achieved and maintained
  • To have a working knowledge of the UK highway network and relevant highway standards, including the design manual for roads and bridges (DMRB) and the manual for streets
  • To understand and have experience of working with the planning regulatory framework, and knowledge of planning and transport policy as applied to development
  • To work to deadlines and work independently when required
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and clients
  • Flexible approach required to cover some out of hours requests

Statutory Duties

  • Co-operate with your employer to enable any legal obligations to be complied with
  • Do not recklessly interfere with anything provided by the employer or others in the interests of health, safety or welfare.
  • Bring to the attention of the Company Health and Safety Manager any perceived short comings in health and safety arrangements, situations or processes that you consider to be serious or which may present danger to you or others.
  • Do not undertake or request others to undertake any works for which you/they do not hold the required competency or authority to undertake.

Safety Equipment Required

  • Relevant PPE (for customer sites as required)

Internal

Qualifications:

Core

  • Full Driving Licence.
  • IT Literate including Microsoft, word, excel and outlook.
  • Written, oral English and Mathematics to GCSE standard

Desirable

  • Awareness of Relevant Legislation
  • Excel / PowerPoint presentations skills.

Experience:

  • Significant experience (minimum of 3 years) with the transport sector within the UK
  • Awareness of the UK van market
