Long-Term Teachers is proud to support an outstanding special needs school in Tiverton, which is currently seeking a dedicated and adaptable Teaching Assistant to join their team. This rewarding role is perfect for someone passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health challenges. The ideal candidate will bring confidence, resilience, and a proactive approach when managing challenging behaviours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide general classroom support, including one-on-one and small group interventions
  • Assist the teacher with lesson preparation, resource gathering, supervision, and activity setup
  • Ensure the safeguarding and wellbeing of all students, maintaining a safe and supportive environment
  • Manage behaviour in accordance with students' EHCPs, catering to their individual needs
  • Support students in accessing the curriculum and actively engaging in learning

About the School:

  • A special school catering to students aged 11-16, with over 100 enrolled
  • Focuses on students with autism, ADHD, and related needs
  • A close-knit team that provides strong support for each other and the students
  • Operates across two sites, with a purpose-built nurture facility
  • Early school hours to meet the needs of the students
  • Small class sizes (maximum of 10 students)
  • High staff-to-student ratio for individualised attention

About You:

  • Passionate about working with young people, particularly those with autism and ADHD
  • Proactive, resilient, and eager to be an active part of the school community
  • Have a good sense of humour and thrive in a team environment
  • Skilled in building strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers
  • Prior experience with autism and ADHD is highly desirable

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday, 8am to 3pm, during term time only. In this supportive environment, you'll have ample opportunities for professional development and growth.
