SSE has big ambitions to be a leading energy company in a low carbon world. Following our commitment to invest £20.5 billion in low carbon projects to 2027, we have significant growth plans and are well on our way to achieving our ambition to build a world that's more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.

About the Role

Base Location: Glasgow, Perth, Reading or London

Salary: £47,600 - £71,600 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing, and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

SSE Thermal is not just embracing the present but is eagerly exploring the future. Our Thermal business is at the forefront of innovation, delving into carbon capture and hydrogen technologies that hold the promise of transforming flexible power stations into key contributors to large-scale generation in a net-zero world. If you're ready to be a driving force in regulatory excellence and strategic influence, join our team and be a key player in shaping the future of the energy sector.

As Regulation Manager with SSE, you'll play a key role in providing regulatory advice to the SSE Thermal Business and help to develop and maintain SSE's relationship with its regulators through effective external engagement activity. This role offers a genuine opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the business and ensure that SSE remains compliant with its regulatory obligations. The penalties of non-compliance in these markets are high, so your role will be critical in helping to identify, influence and prioritise high value and/or high-risk issues for SSE Thermal. You'll provide advice and guidance on areas such as regulatory compliance, reporting, and the potential impact of non-compliance.

As Regulation Manager you will:

  • Provide regulatory advice and contribute to the strategic direction of Thermal to realise the best outcomes for SSE.
  • Work closely with regulatory bodies and other external stakeholders to fully understand and interpret regulatory and policy changes.
  • Interpret and analyse data and policy documents, providing qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform our regulatory policy positions across a wide range of areas and leading on relevant engagement with regulators and other stakeholders.
  • Support SSE Thermal to develop and deliver their ambitious strategies, working alongside the subject matter experts in the business to provide clear guidance on regulatory risks and opportunities.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Degree level qualification, or equivalent, with relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulation/industry codes/legal drafting and produce and draft amendments.
  • Ability to outline complex issues in a straightforward and succinct way.
  • Able to work with, collaborate and influence multiple business and specialist stakeholders both internally and externally, including experience of dealing with regulators or government agencies.
  • While knowledge of emerging hydrogen and CCUS technologies in the GB and Ireland energy sectors is advantageous, we welcome applicants from related industries like utilities or telecoms.

About our business
