Job Description:

This Senior User Researcher role will sit within the Defence tribe to backfill an existing Senior User Researcher. Defence build and support products and services that enable the Ministry of Defence and key allies to make better decisions and have the optimum advantage for achieving operational success.

A Senior User Researcher works with agile teams to create and evolve multiple or complex products and services. A Senior User Researcher represents the voice of our diverse range of users by defining user-centred design methodologies to deeply understand their needs. A Senior User Researcher will form part of the Met Office dedicated User Experience team, championing UX best practice within projects to help build a user focused culture.

A Senior User Researcher will:

  • Work with minimal support and can influence and mentor others
  • Recruit participants for user research and schedule research for a product/service
  • Plan and lead user research activities across multiple or complex products and services
  • Conduct user research to provide insights that inform the creation or iteration of Met Office products and services
  • Lead the analysis and synthesis of user research findings using a range of methodologies and techniques
  • Present findings and user insights to wide varieties of senior stakeholders, teams and users to help align and inform decision-making
  • Support Product Managers with insights to prioritise UX resources efficiently
  • Build user-centred practices in multidisciplinary agile teams
  • Supervise and develop other user researchers to assure and improve research practice
  • Align user research activities with business needs to inform service propositions
  • Recommend the best tools and approaches to understand the user needs
  • Be an active member of the UX practice to help embed and grow a user-centred culture across the organisation
  • Mentor other UX colleagues who have an interest in user research
  • Support the UX Lead in helping to drive a user-focused culture

This is a hybrid role based in our Exeter HQ. The successful candidate will be expected to travel into the office at least once a month or as required to attend meetings, workshops and user testing. Travel costs and time travelling to Exeter HQ will not be paid for by the Met Office. There will also be travel to Defence sites across the UK for testing which will be covered by expenses.
