Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Complex Care Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our team in Birmingham. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in providing specialized care to patients with complex medical needs. This role requires proficiency in various clinical skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality care to patients with complex medical needs in their homes or clinical settings.
- Perform PEG feeding procedures with precision and care.
- Manage and care for patients with tracheostomies, ensuring proper hygiene and functionality.
- Administer wound dressings, monitoring and documenting the healing process.
- Administer prescribed medications accurately and safely.
- Provide comprehensive stoma care, including changing and cleaning stoma bags.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Follow care plans and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.
Required Competencies:
- PEG Feeding: Experience and competency in performing PEG feeding, ensuring nutritional needs are met safely.
- Tracheostomy Care: Skilled in tracheostomy care, including cleaning and emergency management.
- Wound Dressing: Proficient in wound care techniques, dressing changes, and monitoring for signs of infection.
- Medication Administration: Capable of administering medications as prescribed, with a thorough understanding of dosage and side effects.
- Stoma Care: Experienced in stoma care, including bag changes and skin care around the stoma site.
Qualifications and Experience:
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role within a healthcare setting.
- Valid DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
