Team Leader - Dependency and Recovery Services- Hackney and Tower Hamlets

Job Summary:

The Dependency and Recovery Service is committed to bridging the gap between probation and substance misuse services, providing support to adult males under probation supervision. Our mission is to improve client engagement in treatment services through practical assistance and motivational interventions.

Location: North East London (Hackney and Tower Hamlets)

Work hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: £30,082.00 - £36,766.00

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of practitioners delivering Dependency and Recovery Services across probation delivery units in Tower Hamlets, Hackney, and the City.
  • Provide visible leadership, supporting staff development and fostering strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Ensure the team meets performance targets and delivers high-quality services.
  • Oversee case management, allocate referrals, and manage a small number of complex cases.
  • Promote the service within probation offices and at essential meetings.
  • Support the Service Manager in maintaining data accuracy and meeting submission deadlines.
  • Deputize for the Service Manager when required, ensuring smooth service operations.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues in Probation Delivery Units and promote the service.
  • Provide coaching and support for staff development, conducting regular line management reviews.
  • Ensure high standards in intervention delivery through observed practice sessions and constructive feedback.
  • Motivate the team to meet KPIs and manage team performance in conjunction with HR and the Service Manager.
  • Oversee effective management of designated areas, ensuring staff are based at probation units.
  • Compile service rotas and attend all case management and performance meetings.
  • Lead integrated working with partners and ensure clinic timetables are in place at probation offices.
  • Manage resources to meet contractual targets, volumes, and outcomes.
  • Conduct service audits and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and security protocols.
  • Manage information confidentiality and statutory duties.
  • Promote compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical responsibilities.
  • Participate in regional governance meetings and update risk registers.
  • Maintain case management documentation to expected audit standards.
  • Monitor data input and compile reports to meet commissioner and contractor requirements.
  • Complete and maintain action plans and assessments to required standards.

Person Specification:

  • Demonstrable experience in team management, performance, and development.
  • Genuine interest in motivating and developing people.
  • Experience in key relationship management.
  • Knowledge of implementing formal procedures and policies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Project and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of issues facing service users in the criminal justice sector.
  • Experience managing high caseloads and conducting comprehensive assessments.
  • Proactive with a high level of initiative.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and able to solve problems effectively.
  • Confident with strong communication skills.
  • Team player who works harmoniously with colleagues.
  • Open to constructive feedback for continuous development.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a 12-step primary care program.
  • Personal experience of addiction recovery (3+ years clean time) or imprisonment (released 5+ years ago).
  • Experience working within the criminal justice sector.
  • Knowledge of the Recovery Agenda.
  • A Level 3 qualification in Management or working towards it, or demonstrable experience in a comparable role.

A current DBS is required for this role, which we can process for you and HMPPS Enhanced Level 1 vetting.
