Retail Manager

Posted by National Trust.

Summary

As our Retail Manager at Attingham Park, you'll play an important part in helping people enjoy their day. You'll be generating crucial funds for the National Trust to invest in protecting and caring for places, so people and nature can thrive. In return, we'll give you the chance to be creative and give you the support and tools you need to build your career.

Hours: This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year. You'll work 1950 hours per year, and on average, you'll work 5 days per week but again, this will be flexible depending on operational demand. You'll be required to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota system.

What it's like to work here Reporting to the Area Manager, you'll be leading a small team of 5 and around 15 retail volunteers. You'll be a key part of the property leadership team and will work closely with the General Manager and the wider team, actively involved in making decisions that affect the whole place.

Attingham Park welcomes over half a million visitors a year with a packed events programme including Easter Trails, Summer of Play, Outdoor Cinema and Christmas. The retail outlet is a busy one and is one of the Top 30 shops within the National Trust in terms of turnover. You'll be joining the team at a very exciting time, with a new secondary plant sales area due to open in February 2025 and wider projects in the pipeline for the property. The shop opens from 10am – 5pm with the occasional extended opening up to 7pm as part of special events.

What you'll be doing

Your focus every day will be on your customers: going out of your way to make sure they're having their best possible day. You'll lead your team from the front, encouraging them to speak to people and listen to what they want. And also to inspire them, so that everyone who buys something knows just what a difference their contribution, however small, will make to the work of the Trust in protecting nature, beauty and history. You'll set stretching targets for the team, and work together to achieve these through the highest standards of customer service and presentation of retail products.
