Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Property and Casualty Underwriter to join our clients dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting and analysing complex commercial property and casualty insurance risks while ensuring compliance with company guidelines and industry regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite complex commercial property and casualty insurance risks according to company guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Analyse and assess underwriting data, insurance policies, and risk factors to determine the appropriate coverage and premium rates.
  • Collaborate with brokers, agents, and other stakeholders to negotiate terms and conditions of insurance policies.
  • Provide technical underwriting expertise and guidance to junior underwriters and support staff.
  • Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes to adjust underwriting strategies and guidelines as needed.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and participate in business development activities to grow the underwriting portfolio.
  • To manage junior colleagues as well as providing mentoring, training and coaching where appropriate. In so doing, ensuring a high quality underwriting team.

Skills and Experience

  • Business, Finance, or related field.
  • Experience in multiline P&C underwriting with a focus on commercial property and casualty insurance.
  • You will be responsible for the growth of the portfolio by working with key brokers and clients while maintaining and developing a portfolio of existing accounts.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, insurance regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Relevant professional certifications, such as ACII, CPCU, ARM, or equivalent, are a plus.

Day-to-Day

  • Review and evaluate underwriting submissions and policy documents.
  • Conduct risk assessments and determine appropriate coverage and pricing.
  • Collaborate with brokers, agents, and clients to address underwriting inquiries and concerns.
  • Stay updated on industry news and regulatory changes to adapt underwriting strategies.
  • Mentor and support junior underwriters in their professional development.
