Job Title: Java Engineer

Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum + Bonus

Location: Brighton - Commutable distance to office (Predominantly Remote/Hybrid Working)

Our rapidly growing SaaS client is seeking to enhance operational efficiency across their team, based out of their Modern, Multi-Amenity office space in Central Brighton.

Our Award-Winning client is seeking an experienced Java Engineer specialising in web technologies to provide strategic development support on new and existing applications.

Ultimately, the Java Engineer will be someone who is self-motivated and able to effectively manage personal and team workload, without supervision. A successful candidate will be capable in combing both technical aptitude with a product focused approach. You will be expected to have a solid understanding of web development and be comfortable talking about system design and architecture

Responsibilities Include:

  • Feature Development: Collaborate with the product team to design and implement new features across our platform, both frontend and backend.
  • Code Enhancement: Enhance and maintain existing code, ensuring high performance and reliability.
  • Workload Management: Assist in prioritising development tasks by estimating effort and impact.
  • Code Review: Participate in peer reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.
  • Technical Support: Provide solutions to technical issues raised by our second-line support team.
  • SDLC Participation: Engage in all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle, from design and development to integration and deployment.
  • Architecture, Analysis & Design - 10%
  • Development - 70%
  • Peer QA - 10%
  • Administration - 10%

Essential Experience Required:

  • Extensive commercial development experience.
  • Bachelor's degree (2:1 or higher) in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and relational database concepts.
  • Demonstrable experience with web technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with CSS pre-processing (e.g., SASS, LESS).
  • Knowledge of code quality tools like SonarQube.
  • Experience working in agile environments (SCRUM, Kanban).

Desirable Experience:

  • Algorithmic programming experience
  • Front-end framework (Angular, React, VueJS or equivalent)
  • Understanding of JS-based build tool desirable (Gulp or equivalent)
