Job Title: Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Manager

Location: Ilford, Essex

Salary: 40K + depending on experience.

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week (Mon-Fri 0800-1645)

We are looking for an experienced Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to join our Clients team. This role is suited to someone who has a strong background in manufacturing quality assurance with management experience. This individual should be self-motivated and driven to succeed, with a genuine passion for delivering quality products and exceeding customer expectations.

As our Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Manager you will lead the company's Quality Assurance approach and be responsible for the overall quality of products released by the company. You will take accountability for maintaining our ISO 9001 accreditation and for introducing an Integrated Management System to include ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. You will manage and help grow the capability of the company's QA team (currently two people). You will oversee our Health and Safety management system across the site, and suggest any improvements required to achieve ISO 45001 accreditation. You will also be responsible for the creation and ongoing implementation of Environmental policies across the site, to achieve ISO 14001 accreditation.

This is also a hands-on role responsible for: conducting spot-checks of products throughout the production process, the investigation and resolution of quality issues, oversight of the inspection team, ensuring delivery of relevant inductions, training and coaching, ensuring the efficient use of equipment and adherence to processes. You will be responsible for driving quality initiatives onto the shop floor to ensure continuous improvements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the maintenance of our Quality Management System and ISO 9001 accreditation
  • Development and implementation of an Integrated Management System to lead the Company in achieving ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 accreditation
  • Overseeing the inspection of products to maintain Starna's world-leading reputation for quality; through both management of the Inspection Department and conducting spot-checks across the organisation to ensure the products properties meet requirements at various stages throughout the manufacturing process
  • Investigating causes of non-conformities and working together with production leaders to discuss solutions
  • Ensuring that we continuously improve our products and processes to meet the highest standards for our customers
  • Championing the application of our QMS across all areas of the business
  • Overseeing internal audits on the application of the IMS and leading any external audits
  • Overseeing the audit of materials provided by suppliers to assure quality before incorporation into our product
  • Reporting to the Directors on the performance of the Quality Management Systems and providing pragmatic recommendations for improvement
  • Training new QHSE employees
  • Advising on matters relating to the Environment and Health & Safety at work including the obligations and responsibilities of managers and employees; and provide comprehensive and practical advice to managers on best practise.
  • Ensuring adherence to Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines and legal obligations; through regularly reviewing and updating policies and procedures
  • Conducting risk assessments of processes and tasks
  • Overseeing the management of all our key equipment's servicing schedules.
  • Ensuring delivery of any necessary Health & Safety training for all new and existing employees
  • Assisting in the continued development of the QHSE department

Our ideal candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience maintaining a Quality Management System to achieve ISO 9001 accreditation
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a Quality Assurance management role within a manufacturing environment, ideally where a batch production method is used
  • Experience in building or working with visual standards.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of quality control procedures, Health & Safety and environmental requirements, and relevant legal standards
  • Direct inspection experience, for example, reading product specifications and schematics and use of tools including Micrometer and Vernier Caliper
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and growing a team
  • Competence in auditing and risk-assessing manufacturing processes
  • Confidence and excellence in communicating and engaging with people from any position in the organisation
  • Experience working in and collaborating with different teams to accomplish a task or achieve results
  • Ability to think and act pragmatically in resolving problems and making decisions.
  • Able to support with calibration tasks/duties.
  • Good organisational skills
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Proficient in MS Office - particularly a high standard to Excel

Preferable

  • Experience gaining and maintaining accreditation of ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001
  • Experience introducing an IMS
  • Engineering background
  • Qualification in a relevant field
  • Membership of a suitable professional chartered body
  • Experience in the optical manufacturing industry
