Day to Day of the Role:

  • Deliver a broad, balanced, and differentiated English curriculum to students, fostering a stimulating learning environment.
  • Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students both as a teacher and a form tutor.
  • Contribute to raising standards of student attainment and provide opportunities for personal and academic growth.
  • Engage in operational and strategic planning, including lesson planning, resource development, and contributing to departmental strategies.
  • Participate in staff development activities, including performance management reviews and professional development.
  • Ensure quality assurance by contributing to the monitoring and evaluation of the English department.
  • Manage information effectively, maintaining accurate records and tracking student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders, maintaining positive relationships.
  • Act as a form tutor, providing pastoral support and guidance to a group of students.
  • Teach engaging lessons, ensuring a high-quality learning experience for all students.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Experience in teaching at the secondary level, ideally including in multi-ethnic urban schools and within an 11-18 setting.
  • Understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and maintain positive relationships with all staff.
  • Proficient ICT skills, including the use of interactive whiteboards.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to lead and manage personal workload effectively.
  • Ability to motivate students and raise their aspirations through various strategies.
