A government body based in Canary Wharf are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join their finance team in January 2025.
Your new role
This is a permanent, part-time role: 3 days working per week (0.6 FTE).
You will be reporting to the Financial Controller and working closely alongside the Finance Manager, providing broad and effective support for the finance team within their core financial administration and transactional duties.
Responsibilities will include:
- Cash management; reconciling bank accounts, posting payments and journals into the financial reporting system, preparing weekly BACS file for payment, processing refund payments, and capturing financial data into monthly cash flow forecasting model.
- Management accounting; helping to prepare the monthly management accounts, maintaining the fixed asset register, posting journals, checking invoices against approved spend, and processing purchase invoices.
- Statutory accounting; assisting in the preparation of Annual Financial Statements, supporting schedules and audit evidence, and extracting financial information to be included in tax computation (Corporation tax, PSA, P11D).
- System; maintaining the Sage accounting system, with the assistance of the Finance Manager, including the capture of financial transactions into the accounting system and posting of journal entries.
What you'll need to succeed
- You will either be a part-qualified accountant, or hold AAT or an Accountancy degree.
- You will have experience working in AP, and have an interest in management accounting.
- You may have experience using Sage.
- You may have experience working in the public sector.
