A niche architectural and design company is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead and manage their Finance function. The ideal candidate will have experience within SME owner-managed firms and be adept at carrying out a full range of accounting tasks, including managing project profitability. This role is based in their beautiful London offices and offers the opportunity to partner directly with the Managing Director.

Day to day of the role:

  • Partnering with the Managing Director on all financial aspects of the business.
  • Producing and reporting monthly management accounts.
  • Conducting budgeting and forecasting.
  • Liaising with external accountants to ensure statutory returns are filed.
  • Assisting with project pricing, client cash flows, and resource scheduling.
  • Analysing and managing departmental profitability.
  • Supervising an administration assistant for purchase ledger input.
  • Handling bookkeeping, sales invoicing, and credit control.
  • Managing cash flow forecasting and payroll, pension scheme, and staff benefits.
  • Submitting PAYE and VAT returns.
  • Overseeing HR-related tasks such as annual leave management and issuing employment documents.
  • Managing office operations, including liaising with the landlord, security provider, and insurers.
  • Supporting the Managing Director with personal finances.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Hands-on Accountant with proven experience in a sole charge role.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Xero is desirable.
  • Comfortable dealing with high-net-worth individuals and other professional advisers.
