VAT Manager

Brewer Morris are working with a leading financial institution who are looking to hire a new indirect tax manager. This role closely supports the head of indirect tax and involves aiding the group's tax risk management, strategy, and governance.

Main responsibilities:

  • Serving as the first point of contact for VAT queries from the global business regarding the business and product range.
  • Providing prompt, commercially focused advice across multiple business areas.
  • Providing indirect tax support for business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), from initial deal planning to post-deal implementation.
  • Overseeing VAT compliance for UK and EMEA businesses and VAT-registered Funds in collaboration with Finance teams and third parties.
  • Identifying and managing indirect tax risks and opportunities in line with Tax Authority regulations and policies, while improving tax controls.
  • Monitoring global VAT and indirect tax legislation changes, including those related to digital reporting, to assess their potential impact on the business and take necessary actions.
  • Supporting initiatives related to Building Public Trust, such as Tax Strategy, Policy, and transparency projects.
  • Advise on how business projects and changes may impact tax risks and related controls.
  • Review and enhance processes, controls, and systems across the Tax team, building strong relationships with Finance, Operational Change, and IT teams.
  • Ensure compliance with UK Sox and the Senior Accounting Officer regimes.
  • Ensure consistent documentation of tax processes and manage the governance activities required by tax authorities and auditors.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced VAT professional within an advisory role at Manager grade
  • Professional qualification such as CTA, ACA, or equivalent.
  • Experience in tax risk management, compliance, and governance.
  • Advanced proficiency in data analytics tools/Excel is an advantage.
  • Experience with within a financial services setting is desirable.
