Are you passionate about supporting students with severe and profound learning difficulties? Do you have experience working with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including complex and profound needs? TimePlan Education is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Luton.

About the Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be working in a department that caters to students with some of the most complex needs. All students have severe or profound learning difficulties, and many have additional needs such as autism, physical disabilities, medical issues, communication difficulties, and behavioural challenges. You will support the teaching and learning of individual or groups of pupils under the direction of the class teacher, following agreed lesson plans and using strategies appropriate to the needs of the students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the teaching and learning of individual or groups of pupils, providing feedback to the teacher about student progress.
  2. Assist in the supervision of children during the working day, on/off-site activities including school visits, swimming/hydrotherapy, life skills activities, and during transport arrivals and departures.
  3. Implement the school's behaviour and related policies and procedures, ensuring Behavior Risk Assessments are read, understood, and implemented. Maintain records and provide feedback on students' behavior.
  4. Assist students with personal care (when required), and support students in all aspects of the curriculum, including moving and handling.
  5. Maintain the order, safety, and cleanliness of the classroom environment, and help prepare, maintain, and deploy learning aids, resources, materials, and equipment.
  6. Develop and maintain supportive relationships with parents, carers, and other stakeholders under the direction of the class teacher. Collaborate with the school's family worker, other agencies, and professionals to meet the personal and educational needs of students.

Ideal Candidate (REQUIRED):

  • Experience working with young people.
  • Experience with SEN, including complex and profound needs (This could be in SEN schools, care home, hospitals, residential support).
  • Confident communicating with students with additional needs including, but not limited to, ASD, ADHD, PMLD, Complex needs, Physical Disabilities, Non-verbal
  • Experience with challenging behaviour and manual handling.
  • Experience with personal care.
  • Confident and empathetic with strong communication skills.
  • Enhanced Child and Adult DBS check on the update service or willing to obtain one through TimePlan Education.
