Power BI Data Analytics Engineer

As an analytics' engineer you will have a passion for turning data into information and insights which enable our business users to make more informed decisions in every function. Utilising our data analysis technologies, you will use your expertise in creating visualisations and analytical views that bring the data to life for the users. You will also support our ambition to create a self-service data mining environment. You will be an active member of the analytics engineering team investing technology that makes mining data easier for the less technically savvy users and adopting our agile ways of working.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy and Planning

  • Contribute to the delivery of our analytics strategy, enabling all user's with the capability to access data and insights for decision making.
  • As an analytics engineer, contribute to the definition of global standards and principles for delivering consistent UI designs and tools across all analytics engineers.
  • Support our ambition to become a top quartile analytics company, participating in training, support recruitment when required.
  • Policy, Process and Procedures
  • Support the design and delivery of the analytics infrastructure
  • Co-Create the engineering standards for the analytical data sets and reports to ensure consistent delivery of analytical products across
  • Reviewing user requirements, support design of all User Interface designs in Power BI including the guidelines for using the appropriate visualisations to match the insights use case.
  • Explain technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients and less experienced team members.
  • Review end product with the client to ensure adequate understanding and confirmation that the deliverables meet user acceptance criteria before production.
  • Ensures that all code is well structured, includes sufficient documentation, and is easy to maintain and reuse.
  • Gains expertise in tools, technologies, and applications/databases in specific business areas and company-wide systems.
  • Troubleshoots software and processes for data consistency and integrity.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve Aspen's data to increase employee productivity, efficiency, and satisfaction.
  • Identifies/supports continuous improvement and step-change opportunities, to increase cost effectiveness and/or infrastructure flexibility.
  • Environmental Awareness/Customer Focus
  • Deliver a cost-effective, performant data services to contribute to Aspen's profitability and business performance.
  • Participate in both large- and small-scale projects for the design, transition, and operational activities associated with the delivery of new or existing data assets or services to the user community.
  • Build trusting, productive, and sustainable relationships and partnerships with customers
  • Works with key stakeholders/business managers to encourage adoption of our single version of data truth
  • Maintains regular contact with the business and cross functional IT teams to promote, support, and monitor progress and ensure clarity for new and existing data capabilities and data assets

Technical Performance

  • Demonstrate experience in building analytical tools meeting user's requirements
  • Experience in working within cloud-based data infrastructure most notably Azure including tools such as Data Factory, Data Bricks, Synapse and Power BI
  • Assist in administration of analytical tooling, such as Microsoft products such as Power BI, Fabric, Purview and Power Platform tools.
  • Experience coding in both SQL, DAX
  • Basic understanding of python and SQL within a spark environment
  • Support the design of our single version of data truth data model, ensuring the design makes it easy to use and to derive insights for all data skill levels
  • Working with the Data Leadership Team, ensure the Data Analytics environment is designed, supported, and managed in accordance with business needs
  • Produce ad-hoc management information/ analysis that illustrates the quality of your data products and pipelines
  • Participate and undertake applicable professional, technical and career development training (delivered internally and externally) to include attainment of associated qualifications where required.

Skills & Experience:

  • Specific professional qualifications at the level of degree or equivalent (e.g., computer science, management of information systems or similar).
  • At least 5 years of experience as a senior Analytical engineer and design experience in the Power BI / Microsoft tech stack including on Azure cloud .
  • Expert in creating visualisations that support decision making
  • Experience within Financial Services (especially Insurance)
  • Qualified within own personal discipline, with extensive post-qualification work experience to include:
  • Evidence of supporting technical and operational strategy.
  • Working as part of a senior team within a complex organisation (preferably within financial services industry)
  • Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation.
  • analytical engineering experience using Azure analytical tools such as Power BI, building Dax cubes and datamarts from a single version of truth
  • Experienced in building analytical infrastructure and engineering standards to bring consistency for the of all analytical products
