Assistant Accountant

We are delighted to be working with a long-standing company based in South Hertfordshire to find an experienced Assistant Accountant. You will play a crucial role in the month-end process, including focusing in specific portions of the balance sheet.

Job Overview

As an Assistant Accountant, you will primarily focus on managing Payroll Journals and specific General Ledger (GL) accounts related to utilities. You will work closely with a team of accountants to produce management accounts monthly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Journals: Accurately prepare and manage payroll journals, ensuring timely and precise entries (high volumes).
  • Balance Sheet Management: Own and maintain specific portions of the balance sheet, ensuring all entries are accurate and properly documented.
  • GL Account Management: Oversee and manage specific GL accounts related to utilities, including reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Compliance: Ensure all accounting practices comply with relevant regulations and internal policies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Management Accountants and other departments to support financial processes and provide accurate financial information.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on payroll journals and GL account management preferred.

  • Skills:

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll journals.

  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
