We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a CNC Machinist / Turner / Setter Operativewho is able to demonstrate sound technical engineering knowledge, is experienced problem solver, with excellent attention to detail, organisational and time management skills.

Working as the CNC Machinist / Turner / Setter Operative you have responsibility of programming, setting and operating multi-axis CNC lathes and milling machines in the Engineering Division using a variety of materials.

As the CNC Machinist / Turner / Setter Operative you will plan machining by studying work orders, engineering plans, materials, specifications, drawings, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.

As a successful candidate you will ideally you will have experience using Fanuc machines.

DUTIES

Your duties as a CNC Machinist / Turner / Setter Operative will include:

  • Plan machining by studying work orders, engineering plans, materials, specifications, drawings, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances
  • Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs
  • Set-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, vices, vacuum plates, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, stops, and stock pushers
  • Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to company production and, quality standards and, procedures
  • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to health and safety procedures and regulations
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; speaking to line manager to call for repairs
  • Maintain continuity of jobs in department by properly documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs on job cards, timesheets and/or SAP systems
  • Document actions by completing production and quality logs and/or timesheets
  • Update job knowledge by actively participating in on-the-job training opportunities; familiarizing yourself with company policies, processes and procedures and, making use of the Standard Operating Procedures available
  • Accomplishment toward organisation goals by accepting ownership for undertaking new and different requests; exploring opportunities to continually improve on existing processes to reduce cost and increase efficiency

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Experienced Problem Solver
  • Able to demonstrate sound technical engineering knowledge.
  • Programming Fanuc control XYZCB Axis
  • Understanding conversational programming for milling machines.
  • Ability to characterize material machinability, tool holding, tool cutter presentation and select appropriate coolants for CNC manufacturing.
  • Written and oral communication skills

  • Tool & Fixture making

Desirable

  • HNC/HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering preferred
  • Knowledge of working with PTFE a distinct advantage
  • CMM experience would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Prototrak programming and setting an advantage
