Outreach Support Worker

We are currently seeking an experienced Outreach Support Worker to join a Secondary SEN School in Croydon. This role is ideal for individuals who have a passion for supporting vulnerable young people with special educational needs, including challenging behaviour, SEMH, and ADHD.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide support to students with social, emotional, and mental health needs across secondary ages, both in the classroom and potentially at home.
  • Offer 1:1 support to students with emotional issues or those who are behind with their work.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to implement strategies for supporting students' educational and emotional development.
  • Manage challenging behaviours or incidents in a calm and effective manner.
  • Engage with students to build trust and foster a positive learning environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) or alternative provision is highly desirable.
  • A degree in Sociology, Sports, Criminology, Psychology, or a related field is advantageous.
  • Experience as a Youth or Community Support Worker, or in mental health facilities or high-risk secure units.
  • Sports coaches with experience in supporting vulnerable young pupils' education are encouraged to apply.
  • Confident, resilient, and positive personality with the ability to adapt to various situations.
  • A strong understanding of how to support young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Flexibility to provide both 1:1 and group support.
