Senior Quantity Surveyor MEP

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with expertise in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. This role involves managing the commercial and financial aspects of a major infrastructure redevelopment project, ensuring that it is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Your specialized knowledge of MEP systems and extensive experience in quantity surveying will be pivotal in driving the project's success.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage project budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the procurement process, including the preparation of tender documents, evaluation of bids, and selection of contractors and suppliers.
  • Oversee contract management, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contract terms, and managing variations and claims.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks associated with the project, ensuring effective risk management strategies are in place.
  • Prepare and present regular financial reports to stakeholders, including cost forecasts, cash flow analysis, and project financial performance.
  • Manage change control processes, including assessing the financial impact of variations and ensuring that changes are documented and approved.
  • Ensure that all work meets the required quality standards, and that MEP installations comply with project specifications and industry regulations.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and consultants, to ensure clear communication and alignment on project goals and deliverables.

Competencies:

  • Expertise in managing project finances, including cost estimation, budgeting, and forecasting, to ensure the project adheres to financial constraints.
  • Proficiency in managing contracts, including NEC and JCT, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and mitigating risks effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of MEP systems and their integration into large infrastructure projects, with the ability to address technical challenges and provide sound advice.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor junior staff, creating a collaborative team environment and maintaining high standards across the project.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present financial data and project updates to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical skills to quickly assess issues, identify solutions, and implement effective strategies to keep the project on track.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of quantity surveying, ensuring accuracy in cost reporting, contract management, and risk assessment.

Qualification requirements:

  • Hold a degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Membership in professional bodies such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of MEP systems is essential, along with the ability to apply best practices in quantity surveying.
  • Additional qualifications in project management or construction law are advantageous.
