IT Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

We are currently recruiting for an IT Cloud Infrastructure Engineer on behalf of our public sector client based in East London.

This is a permanent role, and the salary range is £51,093 - £54,129. The client offers remote working, however the successful applicant will be required to attend the office for initial training and meetings as and when required.

The role reports into the IT Systems Team Leader and will act as a senior specialist role which will support and lead the organisation with the use of Cloud infrastructure and platform services. The role will bring skills and expertise to such areas as cloud technical architecture (for a workload's use of infrastructure as a service (laaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) components; autonomating cloud management tasks, provisioning and configuration management, virtualisation, e.g, Azure Virtual Desktop and other aspects involved in preparing and optimising cloud solutions.

  • This is a senior specialist role which will support and lead the organisation with the use of Cloud infrastructure and platform services
  • Lead on design and implementation activities that result in new or improved cloud-related capabilities for the organisation and be responsible for integrations of the Cloud environment into other SaaS solutions; all underpinned by the cloud infrastructure's engineer's solid understanding of networking and security in the cloud
  • Collaborate closely with product/platform teams, software developers, security, and network specialists
  • Support colleagues with complex operational concerns in areas such as deployment activities, event management, incident and problem management, availability, capacity and service-level management, as well as service continuity. The role will also entail developing the skillset of the wider IT systems team to improve its capability in Cloud infrastructure
  • Provide expert knowledge on IT cloud infrastructure and platforms to support the organisations ongoing Cloud adoption journey
  • Architect new IT cloud solutions including analysing requirements, identifying suitable Cloud products, prototyping, design and development of infrastructure artifacts, testing, implementation and the preparation for ongoing support
  • Design, build, deliver, maintain and improve infrastructure solutions. This includes automation strategies, such as Infrastructure as Code (laC), configuration as code, policy as code, release orchestration and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and collaborative ways of working (e.g., DevOps). Participate in change and release management processes, carrying out complex provisioning and configuration tasks manually
  • Provide subject matter expertise for all approved laaAS, Virtualisation and PaaS services, lead on escalated incidents and requests, and develop the local teams' knowledge in these areas
  • Support resilience activities - e.g., disaster recovery (DR) design and testing, performance testing and tabletop planning exercises
  • Ability to translate the impact of a technical issue onto a business service will be key to assessing the priority and focus for resolution

Key Skills and Knowledge

  • 3+ years' experience as a senior Cloud Engineer working with the Microsoft Azure platform
  • Excellent technical knowledge of Microsoft Products including Azure Public Cloud architectures, Virtualisation, e.g., Azure Virtual Desktop and Cloud Security
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-code automation and scripting
  • Knowledge of Cloud Networking concepts and how to design and implement networking
  • Knowledge of identity, authentication and access solutions and controls and integrations in the Cloud
  • Relevant certifications related to the cloud environment, such as AZ-104
  • Experience working within the public sector/local authority is highly desirable
