Restorative Behaviour Mentor

Have you worked with socially excluded or challenging young people and other vulnerable groups?

Do you have personal experience of, knife crime, serious youth violence, county lines, been a part of the care system or simply suffered with trauma or the other issues they face?

Upskill-U is a restorative organisation working to transform communities through restorative approaches and practise looking to expand our team.

We are seeking enthusiastic candidates to mentor and work alongside high complex /at risk individuals between the ages 12 - 17 years.

As a Mentor, you will be responsible for providing 1:1 support and guidance combining developmental work and a structured 12-month therapeutic programme. For which full training will be provided.

Key Remits:

  • Provide 1:1 mentoring support acting as a soundboard for Young Person
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate sessions/activities for Young Person
  • Build and maintain positive relationship with Young Person and external agencies
  • Work in partnership with Social Workers & Police to facilitate any support required
  • Monitor and track progress of Young Person
  • Identify any risks/areas of concern

Experience:

  • Although not necessary proven experience working within the youth, education, social work sector or any knowledge gained through working with socially excluded children, young people and adults would be an advantage
  • Lived experience, personal experience of the criminal justice system, involvement in a gang or knife crime, or other relevant knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group
  • Experience of delivering/facilitating sessions
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Able to build relationships
  • Commitment to safeguarding practices and policies, and an ability to promote safeguarding among vulnerable clients and colleagues
  • The ability to use monitoring and evaluation systems to record all aspects of the project, to maintain timely and comprehensive file notes, and to write case studies on sessions with young people
  • Emotional resilience with a positive, flexible attitude, high standards of personal and professional integrity, plus a commitment to consultative and collaborative working
