The Role

We are seeking an experienced regulatory lawyer to join our growing financial services and insurance team. In this role, you will act for a broad spectrum of clients, including banks, payment service providers, e-money institutions, mortgage providers, insurers, brokers, MGAs, credit institutions, and pension providers. Additionally, you will work with cryptoasset firms, IFAs, wealth managers, and placing agents. Our team offers ongoing regulatory and legal support to clients across the financial services sector. While our clients are predominantly based in London, we also serve clients throughout the UK and internationally.

As an experienced financial services regulatory lawyer, you will play a key role in delivering advice and expanding our client base.

You'll Need

  • extensive experience of working within the financial services market (whether in private practice or in-house)
  • demonstrable experience in delivering technical advice to clients regarding a variety of UK regulations, including but not limited to the Financial Services and Markets Acts, consumer credit legislation, FCA Handbook and PRA Rulebook, Payment Services Regulations, and financial promotions legislation
  • ability to deliver technical legal advice with commercial application, that is user friendly and practical
  • contacts within the industry that will assist you to help grow the team
  • contract drafting skills relating to the commercial arrangements of financial services regulated businesses
  • excellent written and oral communication skills, clear written presentation, strong organisational skills, good time management, good initiative, and problem-solving ability
  • team-focused with a flexible and collaborative approach to working with others, but also able to work alone
  • a strong client focused approach with plenty of drive and enthusiasm to help us to provide an excellent client service
  • to travel regularly to our London and Cardiff offices to visit clients and colleagues

You will be able to:

  • play a key role in building and maintaining client relationships
  • supervise junior lawyers
  • work effectively under pressure to tackle tough decisions and present innovative ways to help clients
  • adhere to internal procedures and systems of Capital including file / case management, time recording, WIP management
  • keep up to date with law and practice as part of continuing professional development (CPD)
  • maintain high standards of professional conduct while generating required practice income
  • ensure that the fees earned sufficiently exceed total costs and expenses incurred
