Technical Support Officer G5

I am currently recruiting for a Technical Support Officer on behalf of my client, a leading public sector organisation based in Wakefield (WF1).

The key purpose of this post is to support the Network Management Coordination Supervisor in the delivery of the duties contained within the Traffic Management Act 2004, Highways Act 1980 and the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 to keep traffic moving and to minimise disruption.

Duties of the Technical Support Officer will include:

  • Assessing and granting applications to work on or near the highway in close liaison with colleagues from Network Management Team, other Highways colleagues, officers in other service areas, private bodies and statutory undertakers.
  • Assess applications for Licenced activities such as the placing of skips, scaffold and hoardings on the highway.
  • Assess and input traffic management and control implications on the highway network in the ICT systems
  • Receive and respond to enquiries from other colleagues, the public, elected members, other works promoters, event organisers and general road users, using all forms of communication including the electronic customer service system.
  • Receive, review and process temporary Traffic Regulation Order applications relating to works / events on the highway.
  • Responsible for providing data to support the issuing of invoices for highway licences, highway permits, over occupation charges.
  • Prepare data for reports for the Network Coordination Supervisor and other audiences as required.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • ECDL or other recognised ICT qualification or extensive experience
  • Knowledge of the Wakefield Council Permit Scheme
  • Knowledge of the Traffic Management Act and NRASWA
  • Ability to read and understand mapping and plans associated with Highway activities.
  • Awareness of delivering projects within a highway environment.
  • Programme planning and management.
  • Experience of Report writing
  • Experience of Financial systems and invoicing

This post is full time 37 hours per week, Monday- Friday 8am-4pm. Pay rate is between £12.59- £17.66 per hour PAYE.
