Harmonic are proud to be working alongside an exciting FMCG business on the hire of their first bookkeeper to join the team. Only a few years into their journey they have been scaling up rapidly and are now looking to build out their finance function further.

Working as part of a values driven business, the Bookkeeper will work alongside an experienced Finance Controller to help bring their current finance function in-house from an out-sourced function. This change has come about due to fantastic commercial growth having seen the business scale 100% YoY over the past 3 years with turnover getting to c. £7 million turnover with plans for this to double in the next 2 years. This has come around through building out a high-quality product which uses high quality and locally sourced ingredients to create a product which has taken the market by storm.

The Bookkeeper role is a broad one and once the initial challenge of brining the function in-house is done this role will work alongside the Finance Director and Finance Controller to ensure that the transactional finance (accounts payable and accounts receivables) is accurate.

The role is based at their production site alongside a much wider team. The culture of the business is non-corporate and fun. The team are often working on new products and exciting developments, so they see lots of value in this role being in 3 days a week.

The Role

  • Take charge of the entire accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Lead the processing and approval of invoices while keeping a close eye on related inboxes.
  • Drive the generation of sales ledger month-end reports, confirming balances and ensuring a flawless month-end close.
  • Play a key role in preparing and executing payment runs.
  • Keep supplier records meticulously accurate and up to date.
  • Swiftly resolve supplier queries, ensuring satisfaction and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Partner closely with the Finance Controller to innovate and implement best practices within the department.
  • Manage credit control and customer accounts with a proactive approach, from daily communications to recommending legal action when necessary.
  • Conduct thorough credit checks and onboard new customers seamlessly.
  • Provide customers with invoices, credit notes, or statements as needed, enhancing their experience.
  • Jump in to support the broader business with dynamic ad hoc tasks, contributing to overall success.

What our client would like to see:

  • Advanced Excel Skills
  • Studying AAT / ACCA / CIMA / ACA or ICAS
  • Experience with Stock Accounting would be preferable (this can also include working with stock in an accounting practice)
  • Ability to work swiftly and accurately as part of a small and dynamic team
  • Track record in ownership of Accounts Payable or Account Receivable work

What we would like to see:

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, food, drinks, retail, apparel or consumer goods / products would be beneficial
  • Passion for high quality products and the linkup between accounting and manufacturing
  • Desire to be part of a fast growth SME and environment where there is a lot of growth and development
  • Experience of Xero would be beneficial

Salary: £28,000 to 30,000 + benefits
