Technologist / Technical Manager

FACI UK Chemicals Limited is a small subsidiary of the family-owned Italian parent company, FACI Corporate SPA. FACI UK is located within the Knowsley Industrial Park, close to Liverpool. The FACI group is a medium sized multinational chemical company having manufacturing facilities in Italy, Spain, Singapore, China and the USA, in addition to UK sites in Liverpool and Leeds.

FACI UK chemicals manufacture metal stearate chemicals and merchant complimentary metal stearate and esters manufactured by the FACI group manufacturing sites in Italy and Spain. The products are generally milled into fine powders and are used in a variety of business sectors including plastics, building materials, personal care and feed.

The Role

Reporting to the site manager, you will be an integral part of a flexible and fluid site management team. Being part of a small operation, your role will have several components which will include:

  • Managing and improving the quality control operation, having line management responsibility for the QC analyst and providing cover for the QC analyst during periods of absence.
  • Becoming the site's technical expert in both products and operations.
  • Supporting the plant management team in defining and implementing small engineering and operations projects.
  • Supporting the plant management team in performing plant trials and plant optimisation projects.
  • To support the Site Manager in the management and administration of the Quality Management systems.

Qualifications and Training

The candidate should:

  • possess a good university degree in chemical engineering or a similar science or engineering discipline.
  • have experience working in a chemical or process plant environment.
  • have experience in implementing engineering projects or/and plant optimisation.

  • Excellent timekeeping and attendance.

  • Good communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Able to effectively plan and manage your own time.
  • Able to effectively manage and work with colleagues at all levels within the organisation.
  • Demonstrate a flexible and positive attitude.
  • Be customer focussed
  • Possess knowledge of safety legislation and concepts such as hazard identification, risk assessment and control measures.
  • Possess knowledge of quality systems.

Contractual Arrangements

  • Permanent contract.

Probation: Performance will be reviewed at 3 months and 12 months.

Following satisfactory performance contract will be made permanent after 12 months.

  • Full time employment 5 days per week.

09:00 to 17:00 Monday to Thursday

09:00 to 15:45 Fridays

  • Leave: 25 holidays per year plus public holidays.

  • Salary: circa £35 to £42k per annum dependent upon experience.
